Behind the Curtains of the Playness Pedagogy
Here we are!
Playness is carried out by the flow of playful life.
Well, have you ever wondered why adults think that being playful is being childish? It’s because they didn’t reflect their own stereotypes. Being playful is in fact being very much within your own heart, rooted deeply in your true self. Nature is playful, can't you see?
We will come back speaking of our true playful self and transcendence some other time.
Now it’s Playness time.
Let us give you some insight into the foundations of Playness pedagogy.
1. The Primacy of Movement: We are born as moving beings. Every organism is expressing it’s liveliness through movement. Every intelligent action of an organism is based on movement. We are moving bodies, minds and hearts. Every change that happens is actually a result of some form of movement. There is no other way then to move throughout our lives. So, in Playness pedagogy we take the movement very seriously into account. After all we are dealing with natural forces.
2. The Movement Literacy: Being made out of flesh and bones, we need to learn how to manage and coordinate all those little pieces in our bodies. We have more then 200 bones, and more then 650 skeletal muscles to control. Did you know it takes 27 muscles for only sharing a smile to your friend? Just as knowing the letters is a precondition to reading the story, the same is with the movement. Children need to learn basic movement patterns in order to become confident with their own bodies. Then they can enjoy moving around and further develop physical abilities to finally conquer the wide world of life opportunities.
3. The Value of Play Never ever question the value of play whatever your age. All the mammals play. It is the way that nature has provided us with safe testing of our abilities in order to survive. And it is also the way how to sense the true power of being alive. When one is lost in play, one has found the endless fountain of life energy. Play shapes our brain, making it more wired and bigger. Physical play shapes our bodies, makes our hearts beat faster and stronger. Playing in couples or in group develops empathy, interpersonal connection, friendship and solidarity. Playing with one’s options and potentials is practicing the theory of relativity.
4. The Heart of Play The core essence of play is playfulness. Being playful is being in peace with the environment and oneself. It’s about letting oneself go. When people are playing, they reveal their true self. And contrary as well, when playing, one can mimic whatever the idea of the play is. A child can become a doctor in a split of a second, saving the lives of many in his playroom. It is important to trust in oneself and others to the point where one can be relaxed and playfully released into co-creation of the world of play.
Of course the list of our core pillars is not exhausted here. There are a lot of things to be further discussed within the Playness pedagogy. We will take it step by step. But sometimes we will make long jumps and huge loops to make it more fun. And sometimes we will take it very seriously, trying to take all the magic out of the play. And yes, we may also just post a clip from our Playness lessons to learn from those who are the masters of play.
